Holy Arrogance

So, I've been reading these series of books by Wendy Alec, a Christian Author. Chronicles of Brothers is a series of 7 books that is set in the first Heaven, Earth, and Hell, beginning at the inception of time, and traces three angelic brothers Micheal, Gabriel, and Lucifer's journey from their idyllic world in the first Heaven through to Lucifer's ultimate banishment with his fallen host to perdition. The narrative interweaves interpretations of Biblical texts, particularly the Book of Revelation with Alec’s own imagination. Now, this is not a plug for the book (but for all my biblical fiction lovers out there, it's a really good book), but there is something major that I'd like you to take note of as I quote some paragraphs from the book:

{Note: this might be a spoiler for all those who want to read the book but it becomes pretty obvious that Adrian is the Antichrist, Nick is a new believer in Christ, and The Nazarene is Jesus Christ}
..."Adrian stared at Nick in disbelief, frozen, as a violent electrical shock-wave surged through his body...His little brother wore the Seal...it was undeniable. He had felt the power of the Nazarene in Nick's hand. Nick was unaware of the force he possessed, of that Adrian was certain. It needed to stay that way...".

A couple of months ago, I was going through yet another cycle of moodiness and throwing yet another pity party (a typical melancholy trait), when that party was suddenly interrupted by this thought, "...you need to develop a Holy Arrogance". Now, the word "Arrogance" is not a word that usually denotes anything good. I mean, we all know some people we think arrogant and we don't get the warm fuzzies when we think of them, right? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines arrogance as "an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions". Furthermore, 1 Samuel 15:23 says that "rebellion is like the sin of divination and arrogance like the evil of idolatry..." [NIV, emphasis mine]. So, there's nothing good about this word it seems. But what if this arrogance was based on a presumptuousness rooted in Truth? What if this overbearing manner indicative of arrogance was against the Kingdom of darkness? Then the definition of "Arrogance" would now be:"an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner against the kingdom of darkness or in presumptuous claims or assumptions based on the Truth of God's word". Powerful, right?

Holy Arrogance is knowing the power you fully possess as a Child of The Most High God and expressing this power and spiritual authority against the kingdom of darkness. In the fictional text above, we see that Nick, a new believer in Christ, possessed so much power but was unaware of it but Adrian, the antichrist, was aware of it and intended to make sure Nick continued to remain ignorant at all cost. Like Nick, we as Christians are sometimes unaware of the power we possess against the powers of darkness and the enemy intends to keep it that way! Child of God, realize the authority you possess, for God has "given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you" {Luke 10:19, AMP*}. It's about time we stop looking at ourselves as small, weak worms of the dust and rise up in our spiritual authority, taking by force all that has been stolen from us by the enemy. For we know that "the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [in as much as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up again the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)..." [2 Corinthians 10:4-5, AMP]. I

f you struggle with depression and a defeatist mentality, you have authority over that mindset, in Jesus' Name! Pull down that stronghold. If you struggle with negative thoughts, bring that thought captive and destroy it using the Word of God. You have all you need to win the battle, Saint! In fact, the battle has already been won by Christ...we just need to exercise more Holy arrogance when confronting the enemy of our souls. We see an example of this when Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness after fasting 40 days and night (Read Matthew 4:1-11). First, the devil said to Jesus in verse 3, "IF you are the son of God...". "IF" is a conjunction sometimes used in statements or questions that express doubt, and we see that the devil began the temptations by first attacking Jesus' identity. But Jesus already knew who He was, so that attack didn't faze Him...He knew He had nothing to prove. Likewise, your identity in Christ will be attacked/questioned by the enemy of your soul, but since you already know who and Whose you are in Christ, it shouldn't faze you. Furthermore, at every point during the temptation, Jesus countered back with the word of God. He arrogantly expressed His spiritual authority. Like Jesus, express your Holy Arrogance by attacking back with the Word of God

Here are a few practical tips to expressing your Holy Arrogance. The enemy might say to you, "Wow...you've been praying so hard but God doesn't hear you because of what you did last night". Instead of wasting time feeling guilty and playing into the enemy's tactics, go to God and confess your sin ("If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." [1 John 1:9]). Then attack back by declaring Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus...". The enemy might say, "Yup...you don't feel God, that means God has left your side". But because you don't live by the way you feel anymore, you can attack back with Hebrews 13:5, "For He [God] Himself has said, I will not in way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My Hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]". [AMP]. What a promise! One practical thing I've begun doing is writing down the promises of God and speaking it out/declaring it over my life every day. There are some snippets of my declarations:

"I am a child of The Most High God and NOTHING can stop me from accomplishing every thing God has in store for me. NOTHING can bring me down! I am anointed, appointed, and approved by Almighty God. I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. I will fulfill the calling and destiny God has for me before leaving this earth! I am called, chosen and a woman of destiny. Nothing can bring me down, not my circumstances, problems, fear, doubt, or depression because I trust in and serve an ALL-mighty, Awe-inspiring, EVER-living, EVER-present, faithful and loving God who loves me to "pieces"...God is willing and able to do exceedingly, abundantly, far and above anything I can ever ask, think or imagine. In the Name of Jesus, according to the power invested in me by Almighty God in Luke 10:19, I pull down every stronghold of depression, defeat, self-pity, fear, doubt, lack/poverty, worry, poor-decision making, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and I bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ!".

It is okay to be a little arrogant. In fact, be overbearingly so against the kingdom of darkness. It's a good thing...a God thing! :)
